Bill Utermohlen is Senior Counsel with the firm and has been with the firm more than 20 years, focusing his practice primarily in the areas of litigation, licensing and trademark issues. Bill has extensive experience in intellectual property litigation of all types, including patent and trademark, trial level and appeals, district court and USPTO proceedings. He has had cases throughout the country, including in California, Texas, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, North Carolina, Maryland, Mississippi and before the International Trade Commission. In addition to Federal Circuit appeals, he has argued trademark appeals in the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Circuits.
Bill also assists clients with many license and contractual negotiations. He has twice been the head of the firm's trademark practice and remains actively involved in trademark prosecution and litigation. Before joining the firm, Bill engaged in business litigation and was rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell.
