知的財産分野に移行する前、聴覚と難聴の分子的基礎を研究するバージニア大学のJung-Bum Shin研究室にて生化学と分子遺伝学の博士号を取得しました。博士論文研究では、遺伝子編集、遺伝子治療、顕微鏡検査、タンパク質生化学分析などさまざまなツールを使用した、内耳有毛細胞の維持と修復を担うタンパク質の特性評価に焦点を当てました。バージニア大学にて生物物理科学の修士号を取得し、クレムソン大学にて遺伝学の学士号と生化学の学士号を取得し、最上位の成績で卒業しました。
