Mario Costantino has been a Member of the firm since 1997. He joined the firm as a patent agent in 1989 while attending law school and became an associate upon graduating and passing the Virginia bar in 1990. Mario focuses his practice primarily on patent prosecution in a wide range of technologies, including photolithography, cameras, various automotive technologies, medical devices, and information technologies. He has successfully briefed and argued numerous appeals before the USPTO Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and he has considerable experience assisting with litigation matters, including preparing pretrial motions, directing document production, taking and defending depositions and other discovery related tasks.
Mario counsels and supports clients in developing and managing their patent portfolios. In this regard, he regularly assists clients with infringement and validity opinions, due diligence and licensing.
Mario has mentored numerous junior attorneys at the firm and he has lectured extensively about U.S. IP law and practice in the United States and Japan. Before joining the firm, Mario worked as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in the mechanical/medical fields.
